"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." ~ Melody Beattie

Thanksgiving is just about upon us here in the United States. As a parent, November is always a good month for me to count my blessings, and think up ways to instill a sense of gratitude and thankfulness into our children. We may not have every single thing we want, but we certainly have what we need. Our six (yes, six!) children range from 17 to not yet born. Some of them live with us, some of them continue to live in England, so it can be challenging to pass on our ideals of thankfulness to everyone in the same manner.

It's true, humans are social creatures - however, not all relationships are healthy for you. With all the information available at our fingertips, we have become the most planetary-aware humans to ever walk the planet. We are increasingly more aware of what happens not only at home, but also around the world. Yet sometimes, we miss the tragedies right in front of our own face.

Being involved in a toxic relationship is brutal – whether it's with a parent/child, co-worker, or our most intimate relationships. When a relationship becomes toxic, or even stressful, our bodies take a hit. Of course, no relationship is blissful and conflict-free all the time. So how do you know when your relationship has crossed the toxicity threshold?

Could Nanotechnology destroy Ebola preview

Ebola, the viral disease has already killed at least 4,400 people in West Africa, especially in Sierra leone. It has been very difficult to develop a vaccine for Ebola, because the virus mutates very quickly. Scientists think that nanotechnology can offer a solution: development of nano particles that could be attached chemically to the virus and stop it from spreading.

Winter is one of the most magical times of the year, regardless of your age. The snow glistening in the early morning sunlight, the arrival of Christmas and family gatherings, the squeals of children delighting in the simple pleasures like sledding, snowman building, and snowball fights. If you're like most seniors, enjoying in these events will often mean at least some travel time involved. However, if you live in a climate like Minnesota or Canada, traveling during this time can also be nerve-wracking and dangerous. With icy roads, white-out conditions, and temps dropping into the negatives, we know being prepared is the key to any winter travel.

1. Check the weather reports before you travel. In the age of the Internet and smart televisions, it shouldn’t be hard for even the most technology-disinclined seniors to do a quick weather check before heading out. Staying abreast of the weather conditions not only empowers you, but can save your life if it spurs you to make smarter travel choices like waiting a day to travel, or carpooling with someone you trust.

Why We Explain this Remembrance Day to Our Kids

by Carissa Andrews    •    November 10, 2014

Remembrance Day (Veteran’s Day in the United States) is an important holiday to discuss with our children. However, it is also one that we may have to work at to hold their attention, particularly for the younger ones. There isn’t the prospect of candy or presents, and it entails having to explain some of the harsher realities of human nature. War, death, freedom, and valor are each as challenging as they are important to teach. But how do we get our kids to show some interest and even retain what it means to celebrate Remembrance Day or Veterans Day?

by Carissa Andrews    •    November 6, 2014

If you live somewhere like me, you’ve seen a pretty basic pharmacy design and layout that extends to pretty much any and every retail pharmacy. Needless to say, the architecture and design can be somewhat lacking in inspiration. Fortunately, there is a new wave in pharmacy architecture that proves to be a bit more enticing.

Traditional pharmacy architectural design generally focuses on:
