Propecia (Finasteride) is used for the treatment of male pattern baldness by preventing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. This medication works by decreasing the amount of DHT and this leads to increased regrowth and slower hair loss. This medication usually starts to work within three months of beginning treatment. The recommended dose of Finasteride for male pattern baldness is 1mg daily taken at the same time each day.
We currently have the brand from Turkey manufactured by Merck. The generic Finasteride comes from India and Canada (known as Auro-finasteride 1 mg by Aurobindo Pharma). Propecia is available in the strength of 1 mg tablets.
Propecia Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
• Inability to have or keep an erection;
• Loss of interest in sexual intercourse;
• Decreased amount of ejaculate
Before you take Propecia, inform your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Finasteride or to a similar medicine called dutasteride. Propecia is for use by men only and should not be used by women and children. Finasteride can be absorbed through the skin, and women or children should not be permitted to handle Propecia tablets. This medication can cause birth defects if a woman is exposed to it during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about all the prescription, OTC and herbal medications that you are taking because other drugs could interact with propecia. Hair growth on other parts of the body is not affected by Finasteride.
