Rexulti belongs to a class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics and is used for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. Schizophrenia is characterized by symptoms such as hallucinations, hearing, seeing or sensing things that are not there, suspiciousness, mistaken beliefs, incoherent speech, and behaviour and emotional flatness. People with this disease may also feel depressed, guilty, anxious or tense. Illnesses that affect the brain, like schizophrenia, may be due to certain neurotransmitters in the brain being out of balance. These imbalances may cause some of the symptoms you may be experiencing. Antipsychotic medications affect the chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain that allow nerve cells to talk to each other. Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dose of Rexulti in schizophrenia is 2-4 mg per day. Your healthcare professional has decided on the best dosage for you. Your healthcare professional may change your dose depending on how you respond and other medications you are taking. Do not change your dose or stop taking Rexulti without speaking to your healthcare professional. Rexulti can be taken with or without food.
Rexulti is manufactured by Otsuka Pharmaceuticals and comes from Canada. The active ingredient in Rexulti is Brexpiprazole. The generic equivalent of Rexulti is not available. Rexulti is available as tablets in the dosage forms of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg and 4 mg.
