Peridex (Chlorhexidine 0.12%) is a prescription medication used to treat gingivitis (redness and swelling of the gum). Gingivitis is a gum disease that results in red, swollen, and bleeding gums. Peridex is used along with regular brushing and flossing. The active ingredient in Peridex is Chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine belongs to a class of drugs called antimicrobials. It works by decreasing the bacteria load in the mouth to reduce swelling and redness of the gums and bleeding when brushing.
