Linzess (Linaclotide) is a prescription medication that is used to treat chronic constipation or chronic irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in adults who have constipation problems. This medication works by increasing fluid in your intestines and helps speed up movement of food through the gut. Linaclotide may improve stool texture and lessen symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain/discomfort, straining, and feelings of incomplete bowel movements. This medication comes in a capsule form and is taken orally once a day. The recommended doses are 290 mcg to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and 145 mcg for chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC).

We currently have the brand Linzess which is also called Constella. The 290mcg capsules come from UK and is manufactured by Almirall. The 145mcg capsules come from Canada and is manufactured by Forest Laboratories.
The common side effects may include bloating, diarrhea or full feeling in your stomach, gas and stomach pain. The serious side effects may include:
• Black, bloody, or tarry stools;
• Severe diarrhea;
• Severe stomach pain
Before you start taking Linzess, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Linaclotide or if you have any other allergies. You should also inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have stomach/intestinal blockage. This medication should only be used in pregnancy if it is clearly needed. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. . Linzess should not be used in children younger than18 years old because of the risk of serious side effects. There may be an interaction with Linaclotide, including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products, talk to your doctor if you are taking any medications.
