Zocor (Simvastatin) is used to lower cholesterol and triglycerides (types of fat) in the blood. This medication may also be used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, and other risk factors. It works by blocking the enzyme that helps create cholesterol in the body. This medication is used in addition to diet and exercise to lower cholesterol levels. Simvastatin is used in adults and children who are at least 10 years old.
We currently have the brand from Canada, Turkey and New Zealand. The generic comes from Canada (Cobalt Pharma) and UK. It may come from other countries around the world. Simvastatin is available in the strengths of 5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80 mg tablets.
Side effects include:
• Bloody or cloudy urine;
• Body aches or pain;
• Cough and dry mouth;
• Increase in hunger and thirst;
• Nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat;
• Pain in the bladder;
• Trouble breathing;
• Unusual tiredness or weakness, etc
You should not take Zocor if you are allergic to Simvastatin or if you have liver disease, or if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Take Zocor exactly as prescribed by your doctor. There may be an interaction between simvastatin and other medications such as colchicine, digoxin, warfarin, Coumadin. Talk to your doctor before you start taking this medication.
