Tavegyl (Clemastine Fumarate)

Tavegyl (Clemastine Fumarate) is an over the counter medication used to relieve symptoms of allergies associated with rhinitis and urticaria. These symptoms may include sneezing, runny nose, itchy skin, etc. This medication is also used to treat angioedema. Clemastine Fumarate belongs to a class of drugs called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Tavegyl may include drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, constipation, upset stomach, blurred vision, trouble walking, and dry mouth.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Fast or irregular heartbeat;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Ringing in the ears;
• Seizures;
• Trouble urinating

You should not use Tavegyl if you are allergic to it. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
• A breathing disorder, bronchitis, emphysema;
• An enlarged prostate, urination problems;

• Glaucoma

Do not drink alcohol while you are taking this medication. Tavegyl may cause blurred vision, or make you dizzy or may impair your reactions. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medication will affect you. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Tavegyl and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication should not be given to a child younger than 12 years of age without a doctor’s advice.
