Strattera (Atomoxetine) is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor that used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This medication works by affecting chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. This medication is used along with psychological, educational, and social therapies as part of an overall treatment program for ADHD. Patients should start seeing an improvement in the symptoms of ADHD within 1 - 4 weeks of starting atomoxetine.

Common side effects include:

• Feeling tired;
• Mood swings;
• Nausea and vomiting;
• Sexual problems;
• Upset stomach
Serious side effects include:
• Pain in the chest/jaw/left arm pain;
• Short of breathe;
• Slurred speech;
• Vision changes
You should not use Strattera if you are allergic to Atomoxetine. Before you start taking Strattera, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. It is unknown whether Strattera is harmful to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. It is unknown whether atomoxetine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Inform your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Using Strattera for the long term can slow a child’s growth. Inform your doctor if the child using this medication is not growing or gaining weight properly. This medication should not be given to a child younger than 6 years old without a doctor’s advice. There may be an interaction between Atomoxetine and other medications such as alcohol, caffeine, celecoxib, desipramine, quinine, serotonin reuptake inhibitors, etc.
