Sialor (Anethole Trithione) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve the symptoms of dry mouth. Dry mouth is a condition characterized by insufficient saliva to maintain mouth moisture. Symptoms include a dry, sticky feeling in the mouth, difficulty swallowing, speaking, or tasting, a burning sensation, cracked lips, and an increased risk of dental caries (cavities) and oral infections. It can be caused by various factors, including certain medications, radiation therapy to the head and neck, Sjögren's syndrome, or other medical conditions. It helps to lubricate and moisten the oral cavity. Sialor is also used to increase bile secretion in patients with Sjögren's syndrome. The active ingredient in Sialor is Anethole Trithione. Anethole Trithione belongs to a class of medications known as sialogogues and choleretic drugs. As a silaogogue, it works by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, leading to an increase in saliva secretion from the salivary glands. As a choleretic agent, it stimulates the production and flow of bile from the liver.
