Salofalk Suppositories (Mesalamine/5-aminosalicylic acid) is a prescription medication used to treat ulcerative colitis and proctitis. Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the large intestine (colon) and rectum. Proctitis is inflammation of the lining of the rectum. The active ingredients in Salofalk Suppositories are Mesalamine and 5-aminosalicylic acid. Mesalamine and 5-aminosalicylic acid belong to a class of drugs called aminosalicylates. They work by decreasing swelling in the colon.

Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown whether Mesalamine or 5-aminosalicylic acid passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this medicine when breastfeeding with your doctor.
Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Salofalk comes as a suppository. This medicine should only be used rectally, according to your doctor’s instructions. Insert Salofalk through your anus once a day at bedtime. Please do not take it by mouth. Wash your hands before and after using the suppository. Remove the foil wrapper before inserting the suppository. Lie on your side and gently insert the medicine into the rectum. Try to retain the suppository for at least 1-3 hours or as long as possible. Use this medicine for as long as your doctor tells you to. The duration of your treatment will depend on the severity of your condition. Use Salofalk Suppositories regularly and consistently to get the most benefit from it. Drink a sufficient amount of liquid during treatment with Salofalk Suppositories to reduce the risk of kidney stones. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
