Salofalk Enema (Mesalamine/5-aminosalicylic acid) is a prescription medication used to treat mild to moderate ulcerative colitis (UC) in the lower part of the colon, including the rectum and sigmoid colon. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a long-term condition that causes inflammation and sores (ulcers) in the lining of the large intestine (colon) and rectum. This can lead to symptoms such as frequent diarrhea (which may have blood), stomach pain, and the urgent need to use the bathroom. The active ingredient in Salofalk Enema is Mesalamine. Mesalamine belongs to a class of drugs called anti-inflammatory agents. It works by stopping the body from producing a certain inflammatory substances, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. This helps to ease symptoms and keep the condition under control (remission).
