PreserVision is an over-the-counter medication used to reduce the risk of progression of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). This progressive eye disease causes blurred central vision. The formulation is based on the National Eye Institute's AREDS 2 formula. The key active ingredients in the AREDS 2 formula include Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc, Copper, Lutein, and Zeaxanthin. PreserVision belongs to a class of drugs called vitamins and mineral supplements. It contains a high level of antioxidants and specific minerals. It works by slowing the progression of AMD from intermediate to advanced stages. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are carotenoids that accumulate in the retina to protect cells from light damage.
