Prempro(Conjugated Estrogens + Medroxyprogesterone) is a combination medication that is used to treat the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, burning, and irritation. It may also be used by women to prevent osteoporosis after menopause. This medication works by relieving menopausal symptoms by replacing the estrogen and progesterone that the ovaries no longer produce. The progestin in this medication helps to reduce the risk of cancer of the uterus which can be caused by using estrogen.

Common side effects include:

Serious side effects include:
• Breast lumps;
• Dark urine;
• Increased thirst /urination;
• Increased or new vaginal irritation;
• Mental/mood changes;
• Severe stomach/abdominal pain;
• Swelling of hands/ankles and feet;
• Unusual vaginal bleeding
You should not use Prempro if you have a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot, liver disease or any type of breast, uterine, or hormone-dependent cancer. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Do not use Prempro if you are pregnant, it can harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects. This medication can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not give this medication to anyone under 18 years old without the advice of a doctor.
