Otovel (Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride/Fluocinolone Acetonide) is a prescription ear drops used to treat acute otitis media (in children above 6 years) with tympanostomy tubes caused by certain bacteria. Otovel eye drop is commonly used for children (aged 6 months and older) who have ear tubes in place and who are at least 6 months old. The active ingredients in Otovel are Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride and Fluocinolone Acetonide. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that treats infections caused by bacteria. Fluocinolone is a steroid that reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking Otovel. The most common side effects of Otovel may include:
• Ear discharge (otorrhoea);
• Ear pain or swelling;
• Ear itching;
• Excessive granulation tissue formation around the ears;
• Problem with maintaining a balance while standing

Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects including:
• Bloody discharge from the affected ear;
• Continuous drainage of fluid from the affected ears after finishing treatment with Otovel;
• Difficulty hearing people;
• Ear discomfort such as ringing sensation, hyperacusis or ear congestion;
• Worsening of symptoms

Do not use Otovel ear drops for your children if they are allergic to fluocinolone acetonide or other corticosteroids, such as ciprofloxacin, quinolones, or to any component of Otovel ear drop. Otovel is an ear drop and should be applied to the ear alone. Do not instil it in your eyes or inject it into your body. Use the ear drops according to your doctor’s direction. Do not use this medication for children below 6 months of age. Otovel ear drop should be used on the affected ear unless your doctor says otherwise. Your doctor may direct you to use the ear drops twice a day (in the morning and evening). Wash your hands before using this medicine. Gently clean any ear drainage from the outer ear, using a clean tissue. Tell the doctor if your child's condition lasts or gets worse after a week of regular use.

Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history especially if your child:
• Has ear infection caused by fungi;
• Has viral infection of the ears such as chickenpox or herpes

Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. During pregnancy, Otovel ear drops should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Although, Otovel ear drops is not expected to harm your baby. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. Do not use other ear drops with Otovel without consulting your doctor. Keep the medication in a safe, secure, and away from children.
