Ofev (Nintedanib Esylate) is a prescription medication used to treat lung diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic interstitial lung disease (ILD) in which lung fibrosis continues to worsen—both types of lung disease scar and stiffen the lungs, causing breathing difficulties. Ofev is also used to slow the rate of decline in lung function in adults with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD). Ofev is not a cure for IPF or ILD. The medicine slows down the effects of the diseases on your lungs. The active ingredient in Ofev is Nintedanib Esylate. Nintedanib belongs to a class of drugs called tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It works by disrupting the activity of specific types of cell proteins that make scar tissue. If the brain, heart, and other organs do not get enough oxygen, other medical problems can occur.
