Nucala (Mepolizumab) is prescription medication used to treat severe asthma attacks by reducing eosinophils in patients aged 18 years or older. Mepolizumab is the first and only approved biologic agent that targets interleukin-5 (IL-5), which works by reducing the production of interleukin-5 and therefore reducing the inflammation and fluids contribute to the difficult breathing in asthma. It should NOT be used to treat other eosinophilic conditions or sudden breathing problems. Nucala is used when corticosteroids and other asthma medications are not enough to control the symptoms of eosinophilic asthma. Take Nucala exactly prescribed.
