Natacyn (Natamycin) is a prescription medication used to treat fungal infections of the eye, such as fungal blepharitis (eyelid infection), conjunctivitis (infection of the white of the eye), and keratitis (infection of the cornea). It is particularly effective against Fusarium, Aspergillus, and Candida species, which are common causes of fungal eye infections. Natacyn is the only FDA-approved topical antifungal eye drop. It is often used as the first-line treatment for fungal keratitis. The active ingredient in Natacyn is Natamycin. Natamycin belongs to a class of medications known as polyene antifungals. It works by inhibiting fungal cellular processes, stopping fungal growth, and eliminating infection. Natamycin acts locally in the eye with minimal systemic absorption, making it safe for topical ophthalmic use.

Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Natacyn is available as eye drops. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure even suspension. Wash your hands before applying Natacyn. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and instill one drop into the affected eye(s) as directed, often every 1–2 hours while awake at the start of treatment. Your dosage may reduce as your symptoms improve. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any surface. After application, gently close your eyes and press lightly on the inner corner of the eye for 1 minute. If using other eye medications, apply Natacyn last, after at least a 10-minute gap. Use Natacyn for the full course of therapy, even if your symptoms improve early, to ensure the infection is completely eradicated. Do not wear contact lenses while using Natacyn. You can resume use only after your doctor confirms the infection has cleared. Avoid driving or operating machinery immediately after applying the drops if vision is blurred. Store this drug at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
