Naphcon A (Naphazoline HCl/Pheniramine Maleate) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve symptoms of allergies temporarily. Eye redness, puffiness, itching, and watering are common symptoms of allergies. Grass, animal dander, hair, and pollen may cause allergies. The active ingredients in Naphcon A are Naphazoline HCl and Pheniramine Maleate. Naphazoline HCl belongs to a class of drugs called sympathomimetic amines. It works by temporarily narrowing the blood vessels in the eyes to reduce eye redness. Pheniramine Maleate belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking certain natural substances known as histamines that cause allergic symptoms.
