Mydriacyl Eye Drops (Tropicamide) is a prescription medication used to dilate the pupil and to paralyze the focusing muscle of the eye during eye examinations. Pupil dilation is the process of widening the pupil, often necessary for an ophthalmologist to get a better view of the inner structures of the eye, such as the retina, optic nerve, and lens. The active ingredient in Mydriacyl Eye Drops is Tropicamide. Tropicamide belongs to a class of medications known as anticholinergic agents. It works by blocking the action of acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter signals the muscles of the eye to constrict the pupil and focus the lens. By blocking these signals, Tropicamide causes the iris to relax, leading to pupil dilation.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Mydriacyl Eye Drops. The most common side effects of Mydriacyl Eye Drops may include the following:
• Blurred vision;
• Dry mouth;
• Sensitivity to light;
• Stinging upon application

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Severe eye pain;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Vision changes

These are not all of Mydriacyl Eye Drops' side effects. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.

You should not use Mydriacyl Eye Drops if you are allergic to Tropicamide or any ingredient in Mydriacyl Eye Drops. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
• Have primary angle-closure glaucoma

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Mydriacyl Eye Drops and other medications, such as those used for the eyes. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this medicine when pregnant with your doctor. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Tropicamide is excreted in breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. This medicine should be used when breastfeeding only if the benefits outweigh the risks.

Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Mydriacyl is an eye drop. Please do not take it by mouth. The medicine is for use in the eyes only. Do not use Mydriacyl Eye Drops while wearing contact lenses. Wait until your eyes are no longer dilated before putting in your contact lenses. Wash your hands before and after using the eye drops. Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop. Close your eyes for 2 or 3 minutes with your head tipped down, without blinking or squinting. Gently press your finger to the inside corner of your eye for 1 to 3 minutes to prevent the liquid from draining into your tear duct. Please do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper can infect your eye, potentially leading to serious vision problems. Mydriacyl Eye Drops may cause blurred vision or make your eyes very sensitive to light. Be cautious if you drive or perform any activity that requires clear vision. This effect may last as long as 24 hours. Protect your eyes from bright light while your pupils are dilated. Store this drug at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep out of the reach of children.

The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
