Minocin should not be used during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. Minocycline can cross the placenta and may cause permanent discoloration of the baby's teeth, inhibition of bone growth, and fetal toxicity. If you become pregnant while taking Minocin, discontinue the use of the medication and inform your doctor immediately. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Minocycline is excreted in breast milk in small amounts. However, prolonged exposure may still cause tooth discoloration and inhibit bone growth in a nursing infant.
Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Minocin is available as capsules, tablets, and powder. Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Do not skip doses or stop early, even if you feel better, as this may lead to antibiotic resistance. Avoid taking Minocin with antacids, iron, calcium, magnesium, or zinc supplements, as these can reduce its effectiveness. Take Minocin at least 2 hours before or after such products. Minocin can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, or sunlamps, and use sunscreen when outdoors. This drug may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. If you develop severe or persistent diarrhea, contact your doctor immediately. This could be a sign of a severe intestinal infection (Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea). Store this drug at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of the reach of children.
