Minocin (Minocycline) is a prescription medication used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is commonly prescribed for moderate to severe acne and for respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia. Minocin is also effective in treating urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia. In some cases, it may be used to manage rickettsial infections such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Minocin will not work for viral illnesses such as the flu or the common cold. It is only used to treat bacterial infections. The active ingredient in Minocin is Minocycline. Minocycline belongs to a class of medications known as antibiotics. It works by inhibiting bacterial growth, helping the body's immune system eliminate the infection.

Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Minocin is available as capsules, tablets, and powder. Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Do not skip doses or stop early, even if you feel better, as this may lead to antibiotic resistance. Avoid taking Minocin with antacids, iron, calcium, magnesium, or zinc supplements, as these can reduce its effectiveness. Take Minocin at least 2 hours before or after such products. Minocin can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, or sunlamps, and use sunscreen when outdoors. This drug may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. If you develop severe or persistent diarrhea, contact your doctor immediately. This could be a sign of a severe intestinal infection (Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea). Store this drug at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
