Lodoco (Colchicine Extended Release) is an anti-inflammatory medication used to prevent recurrent gout attacks. Gout is a condition in which there is too much uric acid in the blood, and it usually causes pain across joints, such as the knee, big toe, and ankle joints. Colchicine is also used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, coronary artery diseases and cardiac death in adults diagnosed with atherosclerotic disease or at risk for cardiovascular diseases. The active ingredient in Lodoco is Colchicine. Colchicine belongs to the group of medications called antigout agents. Colchicine works by decreasing swelling and lessening the buildup of uric acid crystals that cause pain in the affected joint(s).
