Livalo (Pitavastatin) is used for the treatment of for the primary treatment of hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol level) or hyperlipidemia (high levels of lipids/fats in the blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides). Pitavastatin belongs to a group of drugs known as “statins”, or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. It is a lipid lowering drug works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. By lowering “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides and raising “good” cholesterol reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.
