Livalo (Pitavastatin) is used for the treatment of high cholesterol in adults. Pitavastatin belongs to a group of drugs known as “statins.” This medication works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. By lowering “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides and raising “good” cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. This medication may work better if it is combined with eating a proper diet and other lifestyle changes that include exercising, losing weight and quitting smoking. Livalo tablets are taken once a day, every day, at any time, with or without food.

Common side effects may include back pain, constipation, diarrhea, mild muscle pain, mild skin rash and pain the legs or arms.
The serious side effects may include:
• Blurred vision;
• Confusion, memory problems;
• Dark urine or clay colored stools;
• Dry mouth, fruity breath odour;
• Drowsiness;
• Loss of appetite;
• Nausea, upper stomach pain;
• Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness
You should not take Livalo if you are allergic to Pitavastatin or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history, especially of liver disease, kidney disease and alcohol use. Limit alcoholic beverages. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. There may be a drug interaction between colchicine and gemfibrozil. If you take other medications to lower your cholesterol, take Pitavastatin at least 1 hour before or at least 4 hours after taking these medications.
