Lialda (Mesalamine) is used to treat mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, proctitis and proctosigmoiditis and to prevent it from recurring. This medication helps to reduce symptoms of ulcerative colitis such as diarrhea, rectal bleeding and stomach pain. Mesalamine belongs to a class of drugs known as aminosalicylates. It works by decreasing swelling in the colon. Lialda is taken with a meal usually once daily or as directed by your doctor.
