Kenalog (Triamcinolone acetonide) is a prescription medication used to treat several skin conditions, such as eczema, allergies, rash, and dermatitis. These conditions cause the skin to be itchy, dry, and inflamed. Kenalog Orabase is used to treat mouth ulcers and other sore or irritated areas in your mouth. Mouth ulcers are small sores that form on the gums, lips, tongue, inner cheeks, or roof of your mouth. The active ingredient in Kenalog is Triamcinolone acetonide. Triamcinolone acetonide belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It works by reducing inflammation and relieving itching and skin redness associated with eczema, dermatitis, rash, and allergies.

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Kenalog and other medicines, especially other topical medications. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if Kenalog will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Triamcinolone acetonide passes into breast milk or if it may affect a nursing infant. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this medication when breastfeeding. Use Kenalog precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Kenalog is a topical ointment and should be applied to the skin only. Do not take it by mouth. Wash and dry your hands before applying the medication. Clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and rub it in. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the area unless your doctor tells you to do so. Avoid applying the medication near your eyes, nose, or mouth. If the drug gets into your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse with plenty of water. Kenalog Orabase paste is for use inside the mouth only. Do not use it on the skin. Dab or press a small amount of paste onto the area to be treated until the paste sticks and a smooth, slippery film develops. You may use a cotton swab to apply the paste. Do not spread or rub the paste in. This will only cause the paste to become crumbly, grainy, or gritty. It is best to use Kenalog Orabase paste after meals or before bedtime.
