Jentadueto (Linagliptin/Metformin) is a combination prescription medication that is combined with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when you need to be treated with both Linagliptin and Metformin. Linagliptin belongs to the class of drugs called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins which help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release after a meal. Metformin belongs to the class of drugs called biguanides. It works by helping restore your body’s response to insulin naturally produced by your body and decreases the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your stomach and intestines absorb. You may help prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs and sexual function problems by controlling high blood sugar. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke.
Our Canadian Pharmacy currently offers the brand Jentadueto from Canada manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim. There is no generic available for this medication. Jentadueto is available in the strength of 2.5 mg/500 mg, 2.5 mg/850 mg and 2.5 mg/1000 mg tablets.

Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. You may have blurred vision, dizziness or drowsiness due to extremely low or high blood sugar. You should not drive, use machinery or do any activity that requires you to be alert or have a clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit alcohol while taking this medication because it can increase your risk of developing lactic acidosis, pancreatitis and low blood sugar. Metformin can cause changes in the menstrual cycle and increase your risk of becoming pregnant. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. Pregnancy may cause or worsen diabetes. Metformin passes into breast milk. It is unknown if Linagliptin passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding.
