Gonal-F (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) is a prescription medication given to stimulate the ovaries to produce more than one egg at a time in women with very low levels of luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This medication is also used in men to stimulate sperm production. Gonal-F is often used in combination with another medication called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Gonal-F belongs to a class of hormones called gonadotrophins. This medication works in women by stimulating the production of eggs and in men, it stimulates the production of sperm in the testicles. Gonal-F should not be used by women who have primary ovarian failure.

The common side effects of Gonal-F may include acne, an ovarian cyst, breast pain or swelling, headache, nausea, redness, swelling, or bruising where an injection was given, stuffy nose, sneezing, sinus pain, and tiredness.
Stop using Gonal-F and call your doctor right away if you have symptoms of OHSS during or shortly after using Gonal-F such as bloating, diarrhea, little or no urination, nausea, rapid weight gain, severe pain in your lower stomach, and trouble breathing.
