Florinef (Fludrocortisone) is a corticosteroid that is used to treat Addison’s disease and adrenogenital syndrome. This medication works by reducing salt loss, increasing potassium loss, and increasing blood pressure. Fludrocortisone is a man-made form of glucocorticoid made by the body. Glucocorticoids are needed by the body in many ways to function well. They are essential for salt and water balance and to keep the blood pressure normal. They are also needed to break down carbohydrates in your diet.

Serious side effects include:
• Changes in the appearance of the skin;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Muscle pain;
• Stomach/abdominal pain;
• Vomit that looks like coffee grounds
Do not use Florinef if you are allergic to any ingredient in Florinef or if you have a systemic fungal infection. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Florinef may cause dizziness. This medication may lower the abilify of your body to fight infections; you should avoid contact with people who have colds or infections. Always carry an ID card at all times that says you take Florinef. This medication may cause an increase in blood pressure, salt and water retention, and calcium and potassium loss. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding while using this medication. There may be an interaction between Fludrocortisone and other medications such as antidiabetic medications, birth control pills, insulin, high blood pressure medications, tacrolimus, etc.
