Finacea (Azelaic acid) 15% is a first-line therapy indicated for topical application in the treatment of inflammatory papules and pustules of mild to moderate rosacea. It is a topical gel containing Azelaic acid, a naturally occurring acid. Azelaic acid helps the skin to renew itself more quickly and therefore reduces pimple and blackhead formation. It also helps to kill the bacteria that cause acne and rosacea. Finacea is used to treat mild to moderate rosacea (a skin condition marked by red eruptions, usually on the cheeks and nose).
We currently have the brand Skinoren from Germany and Turkey and the generic Aziderm comes from India. Finacea comes as a gel and a cream, available in 15 %/30 gm, 15%/50 gm, 20 %/30 gm strengths. Generic Aziderm acid is available as cream of 10 %/30 gm and 20%/ 30gm.
Stop using this medication and call your doctor immediately if you have a serious effect such as:
• Changes in skin color;
• Severe burning, stinging, or warmth;
• Severe itching or tingling;
• Severe redness, dryness, peeling or other irritation
You should not use Finacea if you are allergic to Azelaic acid or propylene glycol. Do not use this medication on sunburned, wind burned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin. Do not cover the area after applying Finacea because this could cause too much medicine to be absorbed by your body and could be harmful. Finacea is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is unknown whether Azelaic acid passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use Finacea gel without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
