Factive (Gemifloxacin mesylate) is a prescription medication used to treat several lung bacterial infections. Gemifloxacin is effective against bacteria in the body. Bacterial infections can enter the body through breathing in droplets from an infected person, eating or drinking contaminated food or water, a cut on the skin, or touching dirty surfaces and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. The active ingredient in Factive is Gemifloxacin mesylate. Gemifloxacin mesylate belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This drug only works for bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections like the flu and the common cold. Using antibiotics when not needed can increase resistance to the drug for future infections.
