Evista (Raloxifene) is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is also used to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have osteoporosis or who are at risk of invasive breast cancer. Raloxifene belongs to a family of medications called selective estrogen receptor modifiers (SERMs). Evista works by slowing the breakdown of bone and promoting the building of new bone.

Common side effects include:
• Cramps in the legs;
• Pain the chest;
• Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet;
• Vaginal itching;
• Weight gain
Serious side effects include:
• Coughing blood;
• Chest pain;
• Numbness in chest, arm or leg;
• Short of breath;
• Vision changes
You should not use this medication if you are allergic to Raloxifene or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, or if you have ever had a blood clot. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor if you smoke or if you have coronary artery disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, a history of stroke or TIA, etc. You should also inform your doctor if you have not gone through menopause or if you have had breast cancer in the past.
