Estring Vaginal Ring Information

Estring Vaginal Ring contains estradiol, a form of estrogen, meant to help treat moderate to severe menopausal changes in and around the vagina. This includes relieving symptoms of dryness, burning, itching of the vaginal area, as well as urgency to urinate and pain during intercourse. Estrogen is the female sex hormone and its necessary to keep many functions of the body working properly. The Estring Vaginal Ring is a soft, flexible ring that contains estradiol and delivers a consistent dosage of estrogen for 90 days, then should be replaced.

Estring Vaginal Ring Side Effects

Contact your doctor right away if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

• Any sign of allergic reaction:

• High levels of calcium in the blood:
o Nausea
o Vomiting
o Constipation

Less serious side effects to watch for include:

• Nausea, vomiting, bloating, and stomach cramps
• Headache
• Swelling of the hands and feet
• Weight gain
• Breast pain
• Vaginal itching and/or discharge
• Changes in menstrual periods (if any)
• Breakthrough bleeding

You should not use this medication if you have any unusual vaginal bleeding, liver disease, history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clots, if you have an increased risk for blood clots, or a history of hormone-related cancer, nor if you are pregnant. Long-term use of this medication may increase your risk of cancer to the breast, uterus, or ovaries. It can also increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack. You should not smoke while taking this medication, as it increases your risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
