Dymista Nasal Spray (Azelastine/Fluticasone) is a prescription medication used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) in patients 6 years of age and older and perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR) in patients 12 years of age and older. SAR or "hay fever" is an allergic reaction to airborne allergens (like pollen from trees, grasses, or weeds) that occur during specific seasons. Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, and congestion. PAR has similar symptoms to SAR, but they occur year-round, typically triggered by indoor allergens like dust mites, pet dander, or mold. The active ingredients in Dymista Nasal Spray are Azelastine and Fluticasone. Azelastine belongs to a class of drugs called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical released by the body during an allergic reaction, which is responsible for symptoms like sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. Fluticasone belongs to a class of medications known as synthetic corticosteroids. It works by reducing the inflammatory response in the nasal passages.
