Dovato (Dolutegravir sodium/lamivudine) is a prescription medication used as a complete, two-drug regimen for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in adults and adolescents who meet specific treatment criteria. HIV is a virus that targets the immune system, particularly CD4 (T) cells, weakening the body's ability to fight infections over time. Without effective treatment, HIV can progress to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Dovato helps control HIV infection by reducing the amount of virus in the blood, which supports immune function and lowers the risk of HIV-related complications and transmission. Dovato contains two active ingredients: dolutegravir sodium and lamivudine. Dolutegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that blocks HIV integrase, preventing the virus from integrating its genetic material into human DNA. Lamivudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that interferes with viral DNA synthesis. Together, these agents stop HIV from multiplying in the body.

You should not use Dovato if you are allergic to Dolutegravir sodium/lamivudine or any ingredient in Dovato. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
• Have a history of depression or other mental health conditions;
• Have kidney problems;
• Have liver disease, including hepatitis B or C;
• Are taking or have recently taken other antiretroviral medications
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Dovato and other medicines, including dofetilide, certain anticonvulsants, rifampin, and antacids or supplements containing magnesium, aluminum, calcium, or iron. These products may require dose separation to avoid reducing Dovato's effectiveness.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Dovato may be used during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh potential risks, and maintaining viral suppression is essential for maternal health and to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended for people living with HIV due to the risk of viral transmission, regardless of treatment.
Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Dovato is taken by mouth as a single tablet once daily, with or without food. Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent drug levels. Do not skip doses or stop taking Dovato without consulting your doctor, as this may lead to loss of viral control and drug resistance. Continue treatment even if you feel well, as HIV therapy is long-term.
Store this drug at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
