Clindagel (Clindamycin) is a prescription medication used to treat severe acne in adults and children at least 12 years old. Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Acne affects people of all ages but is most common in teenagers. Clindagel decreases the number of acne lesions. The active ingredient in Clindagel is Clindamycin. Clindamycin belongs to a class of drugs called lincomycin antibiotics. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of bacteria that cause acne. Antibiotics like Clindamycin will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Severe redness, burning, or dryness of treated skin;

• Watery or bloody diarrhea

These are not all of the side effects of Clindagel. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.

You should not use Clindagel if you are allergic to Clindamycin or any ingredient in Clindagel. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant;

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Clindagel and erythromycin, other topical medicines, etc. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Skin treatment with Clindagel should not pose a risk to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Clindamycin passes into breast milk and if it may harm a nursing infant. Avoid applying the topical medicine to areas that may come in contact with the baby’s mouth. Tell your doctor if you notice diaper rash, diarrhea, or signs of stomach pain in the nursing baby if you use Clindagel when breastfeeding. Use Clindagel precisely as prescribed by your doctor. This drug is a topical medicine. Do not take it by mouth. Do not apply this medicine on open wounds or sunburned or irritated skin. Wash your hands before and after applying Clindagel. Clean and dry the affected area before applying Clindagel. Apply a thin layer of the medication to the affected area twice a day. It may take 2 to 6 weeks to notice an improvement in your condition. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsen. Do not use other medicated skin products unless your doctor has told you to. Avoid using skin products that can cause irritation, like harsh soaps, skin cleansers, or skin products with alcohol or lime. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture.

How should I use Clindagel?
Read the label on the pack carefully and follow your doctor's instructions. Usually, you should use this medicine once a day. Wash as normal, rinse well and pat your skin dry. Apply a small amount of gel in a thin layer to the whole of the area where you usually get spots. Don’t apply Clindagel to areas where you do not usually get spots. Don’t just dab onto individual spots. Don’t apply a thick layer in any particular area as this will not get rid of the spots any quicker. Take care to avoid your eyes, inside your nose and mouth. If you accidentally put gel on these areas, wash them straight away with plenty of water.

How should I store Clindagel?
Do not use the gel after the “use before” date. It is important to replace the cap after you have used the gel. Keep your gel in a safe place, where children cannot see or reach it. Your gel could harm them.

The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
