Cleocin T (Clindamycin Phosphate) is a topical medication used to treat severe acne in adults and children over the age of 12. Cleocin T belongs to a class of medications called lincomycin antibiotics, and works by inhibiting bacteria protein synthesis, preventing the bacteria from growing, replicating, and surviving. Because severe acne is often caused or worsened due to bacterial infections, by killing the bacteria, Cleocin T can treat and reduce the number of acne lesions. Severe acne is characterized by inflamed, red blemishes that can, in serious cases, cause pain, and may ooze, crust, or scab over. Your doctor will discuss the most effective treatment for your symptoms.

Canada Pharmacy King currently offers the brand Cleocin T lotion from the United Kingdom and Australia (Dalacin T Lotion) by Pfizer and the gel (Zindaclin Gel) from the United Kingdom by Crawford HealthCare. The generic Clindamycin Phosphate topical solution and the cream (Pharmacy Compound) come from Canada by different manufacturers. Cleocin T and the generic Clindamycin Phosphate are both available in the strength of 1 %, gel, lotion, cream, and topical solution.

Common side effects of Cleocin T include mild skin irritation, dryness, or peeling, oily skin, mild skin redness, or itching of treated skin. Stop using Cleocin T and call your doctor immediately if you notice more serious side effects such as:

• Diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
• Severe redness, burning, stinging, or scaling of treated skin areas

This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur. If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.

You should not use Cleocin T if you are allergic to clindamycin, have inflammation of your intestines, have Crohn’s disease, have ulcerative colitis, have ever had severe diarrhea caused by antibiotic medication, or if you are using other skin medications that contain erythromycin. To make sure Cleocin T is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had eczema or other skin problems, or an intestinal disorder. It is unknown if this medication will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. If you are breastfeeding, tell your doctor if you notice diaper rash, diarrhea, or signs of stomach pain in the nursing baby. If you apply Cleocin T to your chest, avoid areas that may come in contact with the baby’s mouth. Cleocin T is not approved for use in children younger than 12 years old.

Avoid getting Cleocin T in your eyes, mouth, or nose (or in the creases of your nose), or on your lips. If it does get into any of these areas, wash with water. Do not apply Cleocin T to sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin. Do not use other medicated skin products unless your doctor has told you to. Avoid using skin products that can cause irritation, such as harsh soaps, shampoos, or skin cleansers, hair colouring or permanent chemicals, hair removers or waxes, or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime. Antibiotic medications can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medication unless your doctor tells you to. Tell your doctor about any medications you are taking, especially erythromycin (taken by mouth or applied to the skin. Other medications may interact with Cleocin T.
