Carafate Suspension (Sucralfate) is an anti-ulcer medication used to treat active duodenal ulcers. Carafate is not highly absorbed into the body. It works mainly in the lining of the stomach by sticking to ulcer sites and protecting them from acids, enzymes, and bile salts. Carafate can heal an active ulcer, but will not prevent future ulcers from occurring. Take Carafate as prescribed by your doctor. Carafate Suspension is best taken on an empty stomach. Use this medication for the full prescribed length of time, even if your symptoms quickly improve. It may take 2 to 8 weeks before you receive the full benefit of taking Carafate Suspension. Carafate Suspension should not be taken for longer than 8 weeks at a time.
Canadian Pharmacy King currently offers the brand Carafate Suspension also called Sulcrate from Canada by Aptalis Pharma in the dosage of 200 mg/ml/500 ml. The generic version is not available.
Common side effects of Carafate Suspension may include constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gas, indigestion, itching, rash, dizziness, drowsiness, sleep problems (insomnia), headache, or back pain. Contact your doctor if any of these side effects worsen or persist.
This is not a complete list of side effects. If you notice any other side effects not listed here, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.
You should not take Carafate Suspension if you have an allergy to sucralfate or any other part of Carafate Suspension, or if you have ever had:
• An allergy to any similar medications;

The liquid form of Carafate Suspension should never be injected through a needle into the body. Severe side effects and death can occur. Do not give this medication to anyone younger than 18 years old without medical advice. Avoid taking any other medications within 2 hours before or after you use Carafate Suspension, as it can lessen the affect of both the Carafate Suspension and the other medications. Ask your doctor before using an antacid, and use only the type your doctor recommends. Some antacids can make it harder for sucralfate to work in your stomach. Avoid taking an antacid within 30 minutes before or after taking Carafate Suspension.
