Fungal infections can spread through direct contact with an infected person or animal or by sharing items like towels or clothes. Moist and warm environments can promote fungal growth, making certain areas more susceptible. The active ingredient in Canesten Cream 1% is Clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a class of drugs called imidazoles. It works by killing the fungus causing the infection.

If you're using the cream on or near the nipple area, wash the area thoroughly before breastfeeding.
Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Canesten Cream 1% comes as a cream. This medicine is for topical application only. Do not take it by mouth. Do not use this medication to treat nail or scalp infections. Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after applying the cream. Wash the affected skin with mild soap and water, then pat it dry completely. Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area and the surrounding skin. Your dosage will depend on the condition you are treating. Gently rub the cream into the skin until it's absorbed. Continue using the cream for the entire course of treatment, even if your symptoms improve. This helps to ensure that the infection is completely cleared. Do not cover the treated area with airtight bandages or dressings unless your doctor tells you to. Wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing to help prevent the infection from spreading. Avoid harsh soaps, perfumes, or other irritants on the affected area. If your symptoms do not improve within a week, or if they worsen, you should consult a doctor. Avoid getting the cream in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you do, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not smoke or go near naked flames when using this medicine. There is a risk of severe burns. This medication may reduce the effectiveness of rubber contraceptives, such as condoms. If you are using Canesten Cream 1% on the vulva or penis, use alternative birth control methods while using the medicine and for at least 5 days after treatment. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
