Calcort (Deflazacort) is a prescription steroid medication that is used to treat a wide variety of diseases and conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis that either requires reduction of inflammation or suppression of the immune system. Deflazacort belongs to the class of medications called corticosteroids. This medication works by reducing inflammation and by changing the way the immune system works. You can treat various illnesses that involve inflammation in the body by boosting your body with extra corticosteroid.

Canadian Pharmacy King currently offers the generic Deflazacort also called Definalone by Lupin and Orthocort and Defcort by Macleods. The brand Calcort is not available at this time. Deflazacort is available in the strength of 1 mg, 6 mg, 12 mg, 24 mg and 30 mg tablets.

The common side effects of Calcort may include changes in the shape or location of body fat, cold symptoms, frequent urge to urinate, increased appetite, increased growth of body hair, sleep problems and weight gain.

Talk to your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:

• Blurred or tunnel vision, eye pain;
• Decreased adrenal gland hormones;
• Fever, chills, sore throat and weakness;
• High blood sugar;
• Low potassium level;
• Severe muscle weakness;
• Severe or ongoing diarrhea;
• Swelling in your hands, feet or lower legs

You should not take Calcort if you are allergic to Deflazacort or if you have any other allergies. Inform your doctor if you have recently received a vaccine or scheduled a booster dose. You should not take Deflazacort during early pregnancy as it may increase the risk of cleft lip and palate in a newborn. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. If you take this medication any time during pregnancy, it may affect adrenal gland hormones in the newborn baby. Inform your doctor if your baby has symptoms such as dry skin, weakness, feeding problems or vomiting if you have taken Deflazacort during pregnancy.
