Brilinta (Ticagrelor) belongs to the group of medications called platelet aggregation inhibitors or antiplatelet agents. This medication used with a low-dose aspirin to help prevent heart attack and stroke in people with heart problems. It may also be used to prevent heart attack or stroke after certain surgeries. Ticagrelor works by blocking the platelets from sticking together to form harmful clots. It helps to keep the blood flowing smoothly in the body to help reduce the risk of another cardiovascular event.
The brand Brilinta is available from Canada, India and Turkey manufactured by AstraZeneca. There is no generic available for this medication. Brilinta is available in the strength of 60mg and 90 mg tablets.
The common side effects may include:
• Back pain;
• Bleeding more easily;
• Chest pain;
• High blood pressure;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Low blood pressure;
• Nose bleeds
Inform your doctor if you have any of these serious side effects:
• Colored Urine;
• Coughing or vomiting that produces blood;
• Fast slow or irregular heartbeat;
• Severe or uncontrollable bleeding;
• Shortness of breath

Daily use of alcohol while using this medication may increase your risk of stomach bleeding. Brilinta should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding a baby.
