Ampyra (Dalfampridine) is a prescription medication used to improve walking in adults with multiple sclerosis (MS). Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body. The most common symptoms include fatigue, numbness, difficulty walking, and spasticity. Ampyra addresses walking impairment, a symptom of MS. The active ingredient in Ampyra is Dalfampridine. Dalfampridine belongs to a class of medications known as potassium channel blockers. It works by blocking potassium channels, thereby strengthening nerve signals and improving the function of damaged nerves, which can lead to enhanced walking ability.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. A broken tablet can release too much of the drug at one time, increasing your risk of side effects, especially seizures. Take Ampyra twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Do not take more than two tablets in a 24-hour period. Store this drug at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep out of the reach of children.
