Aczone (Dapsone) is a prescription medication used to treat acne vulgaris in individuals 12 years of age and older. Acne vulgaris is a chronic skin condition characterized by the blockage and inflammation of hair follicles and sebaceous glands. The active ingredient in Aczone is Dapsone. Dapsone belongs to a class of drugs called anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial agents. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria that cause acne. It also reduces inflammation within the hair follicle.

The safety and effectiveness of Dapsone in pregnancy are unknown. This medication should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown whether Dapsone is excreted in breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. It is crucial to discuss the risks and benefits of using Aczone with your doctor before taking it.
Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Aczone comes as a topical gel. Wash your skin before applying Aczone gel. Gently pat dry with a clean towel. Apply a pea-sized amount of Aczone gel as a thin layer to affected areas of the face once or twice daily, as directed by your doctor. Wash your hands before and after application. It may take several weeks to see noticeable improvement in acne. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 12 weeks of treatment. This gel is intended for topical use only on the skin. Do not swallow. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Avoid using Aczone excessively. Do not apply more than the recommended amount or more frequently than prescribed. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
