Acidophilus is also used to treat diarrhea and vaginal and urinary tract infections. The active ingredient in Acidophilus is Lactobacillus acidophilus. Lactobacillus acidophilus belongs to a class of drugs called probiotics. It works by maintaining a healthy balance of good bacteria in the body. Lactobacillus acidophilus is good bacteria found in the human gut, mouth, and vagina. It is also present in certain foods. This drug can help break down food, absorb nutrients and fight off harmful organisms that may cause diseases.
We currently offer the brand Acidophilus Nature’s Bounty from Canada manufactured by Vita Health in the strength of 150 caplets. The generic Lactobacillus acidophilus is not available.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a probiotic and is rarely systemically absorbed. This drug is not expected to transfer into breast milk or harm a nursing infant. Take Acidophilus precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Take this drug by mouth with or without food. You can take Acidophilus with liquid like water, milk, or fruit juice. Store in a sealed container, away from light, heat and moisture.
