Xospata (Gilteritinib) is a prescription medication used to treat adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML is a cancer of certain white blood cells. Patients with this type of cancer develop large numbers of abnormal white blood cells. This drug is used if AML is linked to an alteration of a gene called FLT3. Xospata is given after other cancer treatments did not work or have stopped working. The active ingredient in Xospata is Gilteritinib. Gilteritinib belongs to a class of drugs called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of certain enzymes needed for the abnormal cells to multiply and grow, preventing cancer growth.
