Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve mild to moderate pain from headaches, menstrual periods, muscle aches, toothaches, backaches, colds, and sore throats. The drug also reduces fever and relieves pain from vaccinations and osteoarthritis. The active ingredient in Tylenol is Acetaminophen. Acetaminophen belongs to a class of medicines called analgesics and antipyretics. Analgesics are pain relievers that inhibit pain sensation or alter pain perception. Antipyretics are fever reducers, and they work by causing the hypothalamus to override prostaglandin-induced temperature. This results in the body lowering its temperature and reducing fever.
