Sodium Bicarbonate is an OTC medication used to treat heartburn and indigestion. This medication may also be used to make your blood or urine less acidic in certain conditions. Sodium Bicarbonate belongs to a class of medications called antacids, and works by neutralizing stomach acid, which leads to a reduction of symptoms caused by a build up of acid in the stomach. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they worsen while using this medication.

Common side effects of Sodium Bicarbonate may include dry mouth, increased thirst, or urinating more than usual.
Contact your doctor immediately if you notice more serious side effects such as:
• Severe stomach pain;
• Shortness of breath (even with mild exertion);
• Swelling, rapid weight gain;
Seek emergency medical attention if you have any signs of an allergic reaction, which can include hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to sodium bicarbonate. Do not use this medication without a doctors advice if you are breast-feeding a baby. Avoid taking this medication without a doctors advice if you regularly take other medications, as Sodium Bicarbonate may reduce the effects of other medications. Several medications may interact with Sodium Bicarbonate, especially dolutegravir and selpercatinib. This is not a complete list of interactions, and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are currently taking or have recently taken in order to reduce the risk of any possible interactions. Do not use this medication in children younger than 6 years old without the advice of a medical doctor.
