Potassium (Potassium Supplement) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat and prevent hypokalemia. It is also used to supplement potassium loss. Hypokalemia is a common electrolyte disturbance characterized by an abnormally low concentration of potassium in the blood. Potassium is crucial for proper nerve and muscle function, particularly in the heart, where it facilitates effective contractions. Potassium citrate is used to treat and prevent certain types of kidney stones. The active ingredient in Potassium is Potassium Supplement. Potassium Supplement includes potassium chloride and potassium citrate. They belong to a class of drugs called electrolyte supplements and urinary alkalinizers. Potassium chloride works by replenishing the body's potassium stores.
