Potassium (Potassium Supplement) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat and prevent hypokalemia. It is also used to supplement potassium loss. Hypokalemia is a common electrolyte disturbance characterized by an abnormally low concentration of potassium in the blood. Potassium is crucial for proper nerve and muscle function, particularly in the heart, where it facilitates effective contractions. Potassium citrate is used to treat and prevent certain types of kidney stones. The active ingredient in Potassium is Potassium Supplement. Potassium Supplement includes potassium chloride and potassium citrate. They belong to a class of drugs called electrolyte supplements and urinary alkalinizers. Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Potassium. The most common side effects of Potassium may include the following:
• Dark or black stools;
• Diarrhea;
• Flatulence;
• Nausea;
• Vomiting
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:

Potassium chloride is an essential electrolyte in pregnancy and should be used under medical supervision. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Potassium is naturally present in breast milk. Your doctor may prescribe Potassium chloride when breastfeeding to correct maternal hypokalemia as long as potassium levels do not become excessive.
Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes it. Potassium is a tablet. Take the drug with a full glass of water. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets. Take the supplement with meals or immediately after meals to minimize stomach upset. Your doctor will order regular blood tests to monitor your potassium levels and kidney function. Do not self-medicate with Potassium Supplements. Store this drug at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep out of the reach of children.
