Panectyl (Trimeprazine) is a prescription medication used for itchingfrom allergies, hives, eczema, insect bites, chickenpox, or reactions to certain medications. It can also be used to relieve a cough from various causes such as throat irritation, asthma, allergy, or hay fever. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistamines. This medication works by blocking certain natural substances such as histamine, acetylcholine that is made by your body during an allergic reaction. To reduce itching and cough, it may also act directly on certain parts of the brain. Its effects can be felt within an hour.

We currently offer the brand Panectyl from Canada by Erfa in the strength of 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets. The generic version is not available.
Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Panectyl may include blurred vision, decreased coordination, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth/nose/throat, headache, and upset stomach.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Face or muscle twitching;
• Fast or irregular heartbeat;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Seizure;
• Tremors;
• Trouble urinating;
• Uncontrolled movements

Before taking Panectyl, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Trimeprazine or to phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or if you have any other allergies. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctor about your current or past medical history especially of:
• Blood disorders (bone marrow depression);
• Breathing problems such as asthma or emphysema;
• Glaucoma;
• Heart problems or high blood pressure;
• Hyperthyroidism;
• Liver disease;
• Seizures;
• Stomach or intestinal problems;
• Urination problems
This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy or blur your vision. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness or clear vision until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Panectyl and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication should not be given to a child younger than two years old.
