Opzelura (Ruxolitinib) is a prescription topical cream used for short-term and non-continuous treatment of mild to moderate eczema in non-immunocompromised people over the age of 12 years old. Opzelura cream is used in patients when their eczema is not controlled with other topical prescription therapies or when those therapies are not recommended. Ruxolitinib belongs to the class of medications called kinase inhibitors. This medication works by specifically blocking JAK1 and JAK2, the two enzymes that are involved in several cytokine pathways that contribute to inflammation in the skin, itch and skin barrier function.

We currently offer the brand Opzelura Topical Cream from Canada. There is no generic version available.
The most common side effects of Opzelura may include bronchitis, diarrhea, ear infection, eosinophil, hives, inflamed hair pores, pain or swelling in your nose or throat, runny nose, and swelling of the tonsils.
Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Increase in cholesterol;
• Low blood cell counts;
• Serious infections
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Please call your doctor if you have any further concerns or questions.
Before you start using Opzelura, tell your doctor if you are undergoing treatment for an infection or if you live or have lived in an area where there is an increased risk of getting certain kinds of fungal infections or if you have:
• Diabetes;
• Ever had any type of cancer or are a current or past smoker;
• Had blood clots in the veins of your legs or lungs in the past;
• Have had low white or red blood cell counts;
• Had an infection that keeps on recurring;
• Had hepatitis B or C;
• Had shingles;
• High cholesterol or triglycerides;
• TB or are have been in close contact with someone with TB
Tell your doctor about all the medications you use including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Ruxolitinib and other medications. Do not use Opzelura with therapeutic biologics for atopic dermatitis, and other JAK inhibitors or strong immunosuppressants such as azathioprine or cyclosporine. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Women who are pregnant will need to register in the pregnancy exposure registry. Opzelura should not be used by people who are immunocompromised or under the age of 12 years old.
