Minims Tetracaine (Tetracaine Hydrochloride) is an OTC medication used to numb the eye in order to allow certain procedures to be performed without pain, such as the removal of corneal sutures (stitches), measuring eye pressure, removing foreign objects from the eye, and performing certain eye examinations. Minims Tetracaine belongs to a class of medications called local anesthetics, and is applied topically. Minims Tetracaine works by interfering with the entry of sodium ions into nerve cells reducing the ability of nerves to generate an impulse and send pain sensations. Minims Tetracaine should be administered only by or under the direct supervision of an eye doctor.
