Merional (Menotropins) is a prescription medication used to stimulate the development of eggs in the ovaries in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (e.g., in vitro fertilization) or to induce ovulation in women who are unable to ovulate on their own due to hormonal imbalances. Infertility is the inability to conceive after a year of unprotected intercourse. Many cases of female infertility are related to ovulatory dysfunction, where the ovaries do not release eggs regularly. The active ingredient in Merional is Menotropins. Menotropins belong to a class of medications known as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). It works by providing the body with the hormones FSH and LH, which are naturally produced by the pituitary gland. FSH stimulates the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles (the sacs that contain the eggs). LH then works with FSH to help the follicles mature and eventually triggers the release of the egg (ovulation).
